Iraq, Vietnam, Korea, WWII – The apprentices of all wars are the young grunts who do most of the fighting and dying. They are ordinary people doing extraordinary deeds daily. Often they neither receive nor do they expect special recognition for their actions. Their apprenticeships are short and violent. Survival often depends more upon luck – than training and experience. It’s an environment where peer pressure creates heroes. Those who survive are often better people for it. They move forward with their lives possessing the unique self-confidence that only a battlefield produces.
